Background

I'm Sarah, the person responsible for what gets published on My House My Home. I've been writing about consumer electronics and connected home appliances since 2019. Before that, I spent six years installing smart-home systems for residential clients, which is where I learned that the answer to "does this WiFi feature actually work?" is almost never the one printed on the box.

The site covers six narrow product categories: smart TVs, WiFi washing machines, smart fridges, connected dishwashers, smart ovens, and robot vacuums. I don't cover heating, cooling, or building systems. Different products, different buying criteria, different readers.

How I test

Every appliance I review sits in my home for a minimum of two weeks before a single word gets written about it. I pair it to WiFi on a standard dual-band router (separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks), run it through real daily routines, measure energy consumption with a plug-in power meter, and stress-test the companion app on both iOS and Android.

For TVs, I use a calibrated lux meter for brightness measurements and evaluate four content types: streaming (Netflix 4K HDR), gaming (PS5 at 4K and 120 Hz), broadcast (Freeview HD), and SDR upscaling from older sources. For robot vacuums, I test on hardwood, low-pile carpet, and high-pile rug, with and without obstacles (cables, socks, the dog). For fridges and ovens, I track energy use over a full 14-day cycle to catch quirks that one-day reviews miss.
